It’s not right. It’s not of God. A mass shooting occurred today at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. We know 18 elementary children and 2 adults were killed. The 18 y/o gunman was killed by responding police. This is the 2nd time in 3 weeks I have had to respond to a mass killings. It is the 27th school shooting this year since January. I offer no deep, theological reflection for you today. Instead, let this be our prayer:
Lord, help us. Reveal yourself right beside us. Let us hear your cries of anguish and grief as they join ours. Let our tears intermingle with yours and wash away our apathy to this violence. May the deluge saturate the world around us and be the waters that bring new life; life without hate, prejudice, massacres, and war. Let the malady of sin be washed away. Bring us together, O Lord, let us work together to live in your Kingdom today. Let us find ways to prevent such atrocities from occurring. May your love and comfort surround the families that have lost their precious loved ones. Hold them tight and never let them go.
Hear our prayers, Lord. We weep. We hurt. We suffer. And yet, we hope.
In Jesus the Christ we pray. Amen.
